Price After shooting this course over a full weekend, I asked the students out of interest what they would happily pay for the entire home study set and most feedback was in the region of £200-400 ($400-$800). Although I have been taking wedding photographs for the last twenty five years (one a year) since graduating from Art College I am still learning. I set up as a professional wedding photographer earlier this year after buying £*000's worth of Nikon digital pro camera kit, an Apple Mac and assorted software packages (God bless my wife). I am a natural salesman so had no problem getting paying clients to use my rusty services but I was really in at the deep end. Never mind, press on regardless and take the pictures - talk about skating on thin ice. Off I went to a natural light wedding seminar and my advanced knowledge base went through the roof. Most of the big companies were started during and thrived after the great depression of the 1930's..."hard times" are the best times to start or grow a business. Things get cheaper as businesses compete for your hard earned cash and banks start to panic and offer guidance and help for serious business start-ups in hope to capture your custom in the future. A good business model backed by an intelligent and forward thinking person can ride out and even thrive from any financial depression. In fact, some of the richest money brokers in the world depend on hard times to move in and make their millions! Buy low, sell high. The economy is in many ways controlled by the media so do me a favour. Switch off the TV for a couple of weeks and look around you...are the shops empty? No. Just get your head down and get on with it. Whatever business you are in, weddings, portraits, commercial etc, just put on your blinkers and move forward regardless. Sadly, "normal" jobs are the first to be threatened by economic downturns but a savvy business person, big or small, full or part time, can ride it out and just carry on with "business as usual". If the economy is really bad where you are, promote your services in other countries...many wedding photographers do these days! Worried you are not good enough? Many of the portfolios you see online are filled with great shots, sure. Most of those shots come from a variety of many different weddings. Don't feel that you need to be able to shoot award-winning images with every click of the shutter. As long as you can learn to consistently produce well exposed and well composed images that tell the story of the day, you are on the right track. Over time with more and more weddings under your belt, you will also start to build a library of cracking images that will eventually make up a stunning portfolio!
