I found this interesting for the comparison to the Nikon 700

WOW! Sounds to me that he is pro- Nikon! But then again, it all depends on what you want your camera for. You know Alan from reading your blog and looking at your albums, it seems to me that your 5D suits the type of photography that you enjoy. You've taken and posted some outstanding images with that camera. I guess it all depends on what is important to you. Well, I'm off to take some shots of the OKC Memorial! If theirs anything worth sharing I will post them later.
Yes I think he is a Nikon Man. I've followed his blog for quite a while before I joined ATP. As for me, I want action & detail. When the D700 came out I may have gone for the Nikon if it were not for the expensive lenses and the cost of the D700. As far as I can tell from reviews and reports the Canon 5's do have excellent image quality for the money. The Mk 1 is a bit basic but what detail and wide angle, very nice! As for fps, mega pixel, fast focus, crop factor, plus HD video and value for money the 7D is a cracker. Portrait & studio, 5D Mk 1 for sure. If the new 5D MkIII comes with 8 - 10 fps, duel processors (mega fast downloads), fast focus & tracking, high ISO settings etc and a few do-dabs to boot I may chop mine in for one. I do hear that the mega pixel will be in the astro plain 30+ which is going away from the 5D Mk 1 Nikon D700 quality benchmark, I don't know? Soon they will come with Photoshop installed, full HD 1080 12 mp frames per sec.............
Memory transfer & processor speed permitting ?
I know there are references and recommendations to Genuine Fractals on ATP. I was wondering about the whole OnOne suite? It is on offer at the moment. Information or advise from anybody with any experience of it would be helpful.
The spider inspired the post because I'm finding DOF & focus a problem. I'm thinking stand back up res & crop ??
Alan, I have ther Genuine Fractals plug-in and use it every time I need to upsize for stock photography.
A few years ago I bought another plug-in from One-one (it was the one with all the frames and edges) and they made a total stuff up of my order with lots of back and forward stuff including overcharging and then a refund with the hassles that entails. They were so apologetic that they GAVE me Genuine Fractals free of charge to make up for their end of the ordeal...at the time it didnt really impress me as I had no need for upsizing really, but now that I have to have images at a minimum required size it has been indispensible. It is extremely quick and easy to use but it wont do anything like sharpening an exisiting image ....what you have in the original image is pretty much what you will have in the upsized image so it wont really "rescue" a shot...it will only increase its size while ensuring that you dont lose definition in the process. You can, of course, also use Genuine Fractals to make an image smaller if you need to do that for any reason.
Hope this helps a bit ...dont really know much about the On-one suite as such.
Yes I downloaded Fractals 6 trial and its easy and works fine apart from the watermark. The suite is something else with loads of tools (plugins) for Photshop. They were doing a special deal $150 off the package = $350. Fractals on its own is quite expensive in comparison. I was just wondering. Thank you for the reply.
From what I've tried so far, it's all nearly as complicated as Photoshop. Focus point and colour tune seem a little extreme although it could be me and my clumsy attention to detail.
These are some of the features on offer from $499 to $350 (the offer may have expired) but a 30 day download trial available.

On offer $99.00
After much deliberating, bartering and review reading I have purchased a Canon F2 135 L. Has anybody had any experience with one or recommendations for optimal use?
It works with a x2 converter so with a full frame 5D & a cropped sensor 7D, I have 4 ranges to play with: 135 / 270 or 216 / 432 F2/F4
Any feedback would be appreciated thank you!
Nothing much to say other than beautiful lens! How much did you pay? Top lens for portraits and all I can say is go out and enjoy it!
...and post some pics taken with it here when you get the chance ; )
it's not over till the fat lady sings, an Amazon voucher would help towards the cost. In real money it was £670 new & delivered but I had £410 from the sale of another lens in the kitty. Cropped & "Full Frame" rave reviews plus my more than average focal range usage sold it to me.

My Mrs says I have OCD. I think with a good camera, a good lens, a good opportunity, I've got a good chance of getting a good result, assuming the lighting and settings are good. Results to follow
Boy Alan, Your Mrs is a lot nicer than mine is when she talks about my camera and lenses!
If she knew half of it! "What the mind does not know, the eye will not see."
Now that quote hits the nail on the head!
Ordered Sunday 21.00 delivered Tuesday 10.00 OMG DOF is tight.......
I miss the IS
I'm getting used to it having no IS, at 1/250 it's working well, or I'm getting better
What a day I had at Goodwood (Period dress classic cars & aircraft display).
28 gb memory was not enough. I had to shoot in MRaw & L to get the shots. As it happened I managed but I was amazed how fast I can eat memory. The new battery in the 7D was good all day, over 1400 shots but the old 5D died soon after 500.
My 5D developed a problem over exposing shots and it wasn't until I got home and looked at the manual that I worked out how to rectify the problem.
Trials and tribulations of photography.
I found a Transcend 60mb/sec 400X 32 gb Cf card for £74 it sounds like pretty good for the money to me ??
Can you give us a link please Alan...might have one myself!
http://www.it-buy.co.uk/Memory/Flash_memory/Compact_Flash_Card/
They do all sorts & makes up to 64 mb
Hope this helps.
Thanks Alan. They look like a new online business so maybe buy something cheap from them to test first? Let us know if you buy anything from them...
According to Google checkout mines on it's way.
Google checkout is used by Simply Electronics too. I'm not too sure how it works but I think they have to be pretty bona fide to get their seal of approval. I'll wait and see if it turns up this week, it's now being processed by the "order fulfillment team" OMG!!

Canon 7D 10 months old (on eBay)
Tokina 11 16 f2.8 EFs Wide angle lens (on eBay)
Canon 17 55 f2.8 IS (on ebay)
Can't but your kit but I really like your new profile image...looks great!
It's all great fun to me. I've taken literarily 1000's of photo's with my 7D, the 17 55 is part and parcel of it and the 11 16, I've only used once in 12 months. It's all good quality kit, time for a change. Although nothing ventured nothing gained, I still have a 5D Mk 1 and some good lens's, flash & kit to go with it.
Plus I can't carry all my kit on a plane. So I'm cutting back on lens's, and batteries. There is method to my madness (somewhere in the depth of my mind)
If the 17-55 f2.8 lens had been a Nikon I would have bought it in a heartbeat!! Pity.
Hence the semi advert (notification of sale) : although I'm having serious 2nd thoughts about the 7D, for action it's pretty effective.
Moments of madness! I'm away in Scotland later today and tomorrow. Beautiful scenery in the highlands and lowlands (5D) Fast action in the Dojo (7D) I used to be decisive but I'm not so sure anymore, I closed the eBay sale on the camera. Lets see what Canon (or Nikon) do to capture the Multiple FPS Low Light Full Frame Dept. in the coming months
I sold the 11 16 f2.8 on Ebay
I retracted the 7D & 17 55 although I've had cash offers for the 17 55 f2.8. I'm tempted but the reviews & videos I've read and seen on the 16 35 and 24 70 f2.8 Canons are less than conclusive justification that they are worth "top money".
I can see why Canon have opened up a new market with EFs lenses
I went for the Canon 135 L F2 in the end. If I don't get on with it it will be for up for sale :)
It's good to see the race for the September Amazon gift voucher is in full swing from day one. With my voucher this month, I have purchased a massive umbrella. On 2 weekends running I got caught in rain. Monopod & Brolly saved my camera both days, next time I'll have a big brolly. Thank you ATP.
Congratulations on your first sale, Alan. I'm just preparing my first ever upload. It gives me hope. Love your attitude. Hey, and if we don't become millionaires, at least we'll have a ton of fun taking pictures!
TDMuldoon (Tamara)
Hi Tamara, I think it's all about fun or the thrill of finding & doing something you enjoy. Good luck with your upload, go for it!. Thank you for your comments.
Congrats! I was trying to find your portfolio on fotolia searching by your name but no results. Can you give us a link to see your portfolio on fotolia?

It's the 1st of the month and stock sales are up 100% on last month already. According to Fotolia I have just sold my very first Stock Photograph. One small step for Plattsnaps, one giant leap for my ego.
Woohoo...congrats Alan, let's hope it's the first of many!
Well done Alan.... way to go !!
Nice one Alan, the first of many I'm sure!!
Congrats Alan. Well done...and keep up the good work:)
It's a bonus of membership to ATP. I really had no idea what a stock photo was until I joined ATP. I wont let it go to my head but this time next year I could be a millionaire
Great stuff Alan! Here's to many more sales in the future.
