Back to Photography!

Hello everyone.  I have missed you all!  I am happy to say that after a very long 2 months of VERY painful therapy and surgery and everything else, I was able to pick up my camera today.  Today was my goal date to get my beautiful D700 back in my hands, and I did.  It was for a very exciting adventure too.  Guess what I found in my FRONT YARD - A BEAR CUB!!!!  I will post a pic soon.  I stayed my distance because you know if a baby is around, so is its mommy.  (Unfortunately, I think mommy is not alive.  We haven't found her and the baby is still here crying.)  : (

Please wish me good thoughts in the next few weeks of recovery.  I have a wedding that I have booked on June 19th and I WILL NOT cancel it!  (If you don't know what happened to me - I was thrown from my horse on April 7th and suffered a broken Right Arm that the Dr. said was the worst break he has ever seen and required a plate and screws to be put into my arm and a broken tail bone. Since then, it has all gone downhill with adverse reactions to everything done to me but I can see the light now- oh wait, that was my flash.)

I have spent my time reading photography magazines, books and playing around with Lightroom, Photoshop and Aperture.  Now, it's practice time!!!  : )  I will post some of the pics that I have been working on soon.

rate this post: very bad poor average good fantastic!

Wow Lorraine, that is all incredible...

The bear in the garden, your horrific injury but most of all your amazing attitude towards it! Good on you and I wish you a speedy recovery and welcome back!

Your accident sounds like it could have been a lot worse (broken neck/back/paralysis), I think our attitude towards these things determines the rest of our lives and how we choose to live them. I had a "near death" experience with a skydiving malfunction and I know that was the turning point of my life...maybe we all need a life-changing experience to make us realise:

  1. How fragile life is
  2. How lucky we are to be alive

Take care and look forward to seeing some bear pics (hope the mother is ok but doesn't look good does it...will you call the relevant authorities)?

Thanks Nick.  I am so glad I am finally feeling better but I have so much further to go.  Just so thankful for everything I do have and how precious life is.  I think that is why I love photography so much.  I get to catch that glimmer and sparkle in people's eyes and I love that!

About the bear, I did call 5 different places and NOBODY came to help!!!  They said we were too far out to come help.  I was sooo mad because I have 6 kids!  I don't want them to play outside now for sure.  We will try again tomorrow I guess. He is awfully cute though, isn't he?

Yes, he is cute but it is sad to think no-one is willing to help and I would certainly feel unsure about letting the kids play outside...what a nightmare!

Welcome back to the site Lorraine..we really missed you and I am so glad you are on the home straight and feeling like you want to get going on your photography again. I find that photography is great for taking your mind off things like chronic pain (trust me..I know what I am talking about!) and if you can use that to focus on, then the other "stuff" becomes less important.

Looking forward to seeing more great pics from you soon..!Smile

My goodness!  That's awful and amazing, but I'm glad you're doing much better.  Here's to a speedy recovery!  I've really enjoyed seeing your photos in the gallery and look forward to seeing more.

P.S.  I'm also from California! (currently living out of state, but hope to return some day)
