A shoot of brand new baby Kimayne as well as her 14month old sister, and mom and dad. This was a mission of note...took 9.30 am until 12.30 am ...amongst the bedlam we managed to get some shots.

I took the new 7D for a walk around the Canberra National Zoo and I like the results. The inside shots (reptiles) were done handheld, no flash and 1600 ISO.

I tried to add these to my previous album but it threw the sequences out, so I have added them as a separate album instead.

I was trying some different effects using mainly coloured backgrounds to change the look of some of my older images.

Been playing around with picturenaut and picasa. This is from today. Shot with 55-200mm f/4-5.6. 7 shots -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3. f/5.6. 200mm.

Soe more experimenting to see how the application of layers of textures and changing blending modes affects images.

I have been experimenting with using one or more texture layers on images, then changing blending modes to get the effect i want. It is fun because you never know exactly how it will turn out. Here are two examples of before and after for comparison.

For those of you who follow motor sport especially motox etc you may have heard of Jackson Strong who is part of the Metal Mulisha Crew. He is a local Lad from Lockhart which is about 40 mins from Wagga and was in town last weekend to do a few demo jumps for a local car dealership. This was the first outing for the new 7D.

8 months old baby boy and his sister. <br>It was a good practice. I used flash and Gary Fong cloud diffuser. Bounced flash.<br>However I think I would have been better off renting a soft box for continues light. I'm still very beginner with using flash. Many times the camera was faster than the flash. I ended up with quiet few unusable images. But over all it turned out pretty good for the first try.<br>The baby was such of great character and he is teething in unusual way. You can see it in one of the photo. Hilarious.<br>Please share your thoughts. Thank you.

It made a lovely change to be able to do a planned photoshoot outside whilst the sun was shining! I really enjoyed photographing this lovely family - they were great fun to be with, and before I knew it I'd taken several hundred shots! Thankfully I've managed to edit down to 80, which hopefully they'll be pleased with. Here's a small selection.

Last week I did a photo shoot of this teenageer with so much attitude..I really had to work hard but ended up with some nice images. Here is one of them...will post the rest later..have just been too tired and too hot to do much editing lately especially as my computer room is the hottest room in the house and with soaring summer temps, it is very uncomfortable to sit there.

Was on the way home from an assignment and saw this it was blowing about 70mph trying to get filters etc on camera was interesting

2 Models, Speedlites, a set of Quadra's, some warm clothing and the West End of London. A few examples from Wednesday's Shoot. <br><br>All processed using the LR4 Beta, some good features for video, GPS and Albums but I think I will have to use it a bit more to be convinced.

I met up with a dancer over New Year who needed some shots for her portfolio. Typically the weather was awful but she wanted to go outside anyway. Meg is a young dancer who's not used to being photographed. I tried to find the balance between doing things she'd be comfortable with and also trying something a bit different - some poses more successful than others I think. Comments would be great, thanks.

Never in my life have I shot any nature images, I suddenly had the urge today, all images are either HDR and composites

This was my first paid proper wedding so I was very nervous (not that I charged much, but that's not the point). It was a little odd in that the bride's mum booked me as a surprise for the couple who were on a very tight budget. Consequently I'd not had the opportunity to meet them beforehand and the photography was a little tricky to begin with. It got much easier as the wedding went on, although the groom really found it hard to smile at all (not sure why - maybe he just didn't like his picture being taken). I'd love some feedback please - I have six more weddings booked now so need to up my game.

Hi all, put a little bit of everything in this album from sutff I've doing lately.

Used cooking oil this time in a glass casserole dish lid and place various items underneath to create backgrounds. Used a 100mm macro lens throughout

I was playing with my 50mm f1.8 lens as I have hardly used it...also fiddling with textures and effects for variety to add depth and tones.

Hubby and I took a couple of days to just relax, didn't get to really celebrate our anniversary in December--visited with his folks,enjoyed the first snow of the season while traveling around the Ohio, Kentucky and southeast Indiana area.

Watched a video on YouTube and was inspired to create these backgrounds. All caught using a 100mm macro.<br>A sheet of glass was used with some rain repellent applied to the surface then simply sprayed water on the surface and inserted various objects underneath.

Thought of these photos after I'd been down to the coast over new year. When I was in Wales, this shutterbug just wasn't careful enough and got himself stranded - he was still taking photos as they came in to save him though!

I was bought a 10-stop ND filter for Christmas and hoped to get plenty of use out of it down in Cornwall for new year's. Only got to use it once though - it rained sheets or has been thick fog for the last 4 days, good old England :) Would appreciate any general advice on using these filters.

I've heard of singing in the rain, but photographing in the rain is not something I ever thought I'd be doing. I had a meeting this morning with a couple who's wedding I'll be photographing in July. They live in London and are in Scotland for New Year so I had to make the most of a quick half hour with them. They asked me to take some shots but only had 10 minutes to spare and it was pouring with rain. This is what I came up with under duress! We were very lucky as their hotel was near the river so we could quickly nip down there (I didn't much fancy the hotel lobby for a shoot!) I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thanks.

I did this photo shoot with my daughter and little 5 day old Chloe just after Christmas. It was completely spontaneous - my daughter was on her bed gazing at Chloe and I grabbed my camera. Chloe was alert and calm and just so scrumptious! Her mum was thrilled with the photos.I welcome critique and comments.

It's been a busy time in this house with two birthdays in the run up to Christmas. I love making cakes for my children, and I also had a treat last week in that I was asked to make one for a little boy who lives down the road, and to take some pictures of him on his first birthday. How lucky am I?!

I had a fun weekend away in Manchester with a friend just before Christmas in lieu of buying presents for each other. She asked to have some shots taken and I jumped at the chance as I spend most of my time photographing little people at the moment. I'd love some comments and feedback as this is new territory for me. We spent quite a bit of our time giggling but both thoroughly enjoyed the shoot which I guess is the main thing. <br><br>I was aiming to capture as many different looks as possible (with limited resources) and I also wanted to have an urban feel to the shots to reflect the surroundings they were taken in. Manchester really does have some beautiful architecture so next time I go back I'm going to focus on photographing that!

We had our family Christmas on the 24th, all of our kids, the 2 daughters-in-law and the grandbaby. On Christmas we traveled about 120 miles to northern Kentucky, across the river from Cincinnati.

I looked out of my lounge window and saw the cloud formation, grabbed my camera, into my car and drove like a lunatic to find a spot to get a few good shots before the moment had passed. Then on my my way back home noticed that I had an opportunity to photograph the moon, I managed to get a few fairly good shots, low light no tripod.

After the lovely rains our Guavadilla creeper is laden with flowers and young Guavadillas...the creeper now covers the entuire front of our house and supplies lots of these fruits which look like granadillas and taste a bit like a cross between a guava and a grenadilla.

Traci and I spent 10 days recently on beautlful Hamilton Island which lies in the Whitsunday Island Group in North Queensland. The resort offers a variety of accommodation styles and is very popular with couples and families alike.

I took this pic of Ethan the German Shepherd and played around with a textured background and various blending modes...this is the result .

Johan and Rodney had adopted Ethan as a little crawny pup from the animal welfare in March ofthis year. He is now a fine young Genman Shepherd and his owners wanted a "family shoot" of the three of them.

See my blog about the teenage siblings who wanted a shoot in black and white...they laid down all sorts of conditions and only had 20 minutes for the shoot....it was rather frustrating in many ways but at least we ended up with a few shots that they liked and they chose one for the enlargement.

I was really lucky to photograph these gorgeous kids for their dad's 40th birthday last week. I even got the parents to participate too (although getting them all together at once and looking at the camera was fiendishly difficult!). The plan was to do the whole shoot in the park but the weather did not want to play ball. We had to make do with a few shots outside their house in between showers, but the ones taken indoors with my studio light came out nicely as well.

So here it is folks...my new relocated studio (aka emptied out spare room).<br>The background is an ikea blind with my vinyl backdrop mounted on the wall to create the seamless curve and floor. The strobes are mounted on old wall shelving brackets. The floor is background stand free.<br>The room in 8x12 and painted an off white with a white ceiling and bounces the light beautifully.<br>Comments and feedback welcomed.<br>Ideas on how to improve this set up/ light the floor in front of the subject etc welcomed. Enjoy my boys being silly in front of the camera :)

Hi, these images are from one of four weddings i did this year and i could do with your help. The wedding was shot in August and also did an engagement party shoot which was included in the price. I had received no payment as yet and then this week the bride and groom contacted me saying that they were disgusted with the images and they want a big discount on the price quoted. I worked 12 hours on the day itself and they received 350 shots and they say they were expecting about a thousand. One of the engagement images i notice has been put onto canvas and is on their lounge wall. Anyway my confidence has been severely dented. Could you give me some honest feedback on the images, i have shot easier weddings but over all i do not think these ones are too bad and i was particularly please with the last one. I have knocked £150 off for them as am a shy little lamb but i feel devastated and wonder whether i should just do landscapes where i feel much more at home.<br>Thanks , John.<br>

A friend of the family asked me if I would take some photos for their engagement, since they were getting married on such short notice. This was my first shoot, really of any kind. I made the mistake of shooting on manual, instead of utilizing Av and Tv. Had some good shots, but also failed to execute on a couple of other ones. Please don't withhold negative feedback. I really want to know what you think. They have now asked me to shoot their wedding in a month, so I really need to learn from my mistakes. Thank you everyone!

Sunrise

Just a sample of the stormy, windy days we have been having lately.

My 40-year old friend Robyn is going through (another) messy divorce and wanted to have a shoot to cheer herself up..so we did a boudoir shoot at my house. As there are some nude/semi-nude shots, please be aware of this before viewing this album if you have a problem with nudity.<br>By the way, I have her permission to share all these images.<br>I battled with white balance/colour control as she had sprayed herself with self-tanning stuff before she arrived and her skin turned out more orange than brown....I have no idea why she took it into her head to do this without consulting me first!<br>Also, Robyn's hair is actually very short but she had hair extensions put in especially for this shoot as she wanted to have long hair in the photos. The result was that the overall effect was quite nice but in the portraits where I was closer to her, the hair lacked any kind of lustre and looked a bit dead IMO.<br>Anyway, it was what she wanted and she was delighted with the "new look".

These are only a sample of experimenting in the studio. They look ok on my monitor for whiteness but would appreciate feedback

This is my old home town and birds live in my friends back yard.

I photographed this boxing/exercise class held in a public park. The photos were for the instructor's website. It was 6.30am with a low angled sun, a very busy background and moving subjects. I just ran around following the class and snapping whenever possible.

We spent last weekend at Lamington National Park which is a rainforest area of SE Queensland. We went on a 20km bush walk deep into the rainforest. The photography was quite difficult as it was very dark. Would love some suggestions on how to photograph in those conditions - black shadows and glary sun coming through trees. I really needed a tripod but the hiking was too difficult to carry one.

A few images from an hour in the studio

Spent yesterday at our local Lake Albert for Round 1 of the Canberra V Country challenge Series in waterskiing. Many different classes but most of these shots are from the open class where the skiers are travelling at around 70mph. Great fun to watch these boats open up! I have used the Canon 300mm F4 with a 1.4 extender for these shots.

Weekend away

This lady is celebrating having lost almost 6 stone. I have seen the before shots.

A few shots from my first proper photography job! The family wanted to take all the shots in their favourite park but typically the weather wasn't having any of it. Thankfully we managed to get a few before the rain started and had to head indoors (I should know better living in Scotland!)

My friend Thor is from Hawaii. He has a big family. Every year they have a Luau and this year his mom turned 80 years old. It was a fantastic time. The people are very friendly and welcoming.<br>I think this was my favorite day from all. Beautiful people, I was truly captivated by them.

Here are a few photos from our trip to Hawaii at the end of 2010. It was the first time I'd used my new Canon 5D Mk 11 and unfortunately had it on a low resolution setting which was very sad :( I took a few panoramas and stitched them together - I don't know if that is OK in the world of serious photography but I did it anyway! Critiques welcome.

A few shots from the last round of Dirt Track here in Wagga. Riders from Canberra and Victoria took part in a great days racing. I'm now getting inquiries from riders wanting to see themselves in action and making sales on that as well, happy days!!

I just recently got back from my Hawaii trip. It was a fantastic one. My friends are pretty advanced in kite surfing. I was really looking forward to this day. Even though the wind wasn't the best they still could "show off" a little bit. I had a blast on this day. I used two lenses 70-200mm f/4 no IS. Which made it a little challenging since I was standing in the water. The ground wasn't solid and wind was strong enough to get me off balance. The other lens was 10-22mm. Would love to hear your thoughts and critics. Thanks

Here is another little girl standing with the bridesmaid, I applied the same homemade glow and lightened her eyes with the dodge tool which really made them stand out. I love the effect the glow action gives as it makes the picture more romantic. ps I have also colour balanced again as the image was a little rosy - did this by using the colour balance slider and sliding it left towards cyan (highlights and midtones) the split image (after) will show you how it looked before this little tweak!

I would like to share just a very small selection of the photos I took while in northern Italy on Kevin Kubota's Secret Italy Workshop. It was a week totally immersed in photography with about 25 other photographers, some professional, others hobbyists like me. Xmas pressie for car 4 driver

This album is not really for critiqueing as the pics are not of particular artistic merit, merely a record of a fun event. Last weekend saw the city's first ever gay parade and there were over 700 participants from all over the country. I have no bias one way or the other but thought members might like to see some of the pics showing just how colourful and vibrant this parade was. I have also not provided captions as the images tell their own story.

Eleven year old twin girls photo shoot...here are a few selected pics of them taken in their garden....both wanted individual pics taken and were fun to work with as they are very different in character.

These two girls (aged 12...going on 22) wanted a shoot at the beach, even though it was a windy, overcast day. We did the shoot and I struggled to keep a straight face as they both worked incredibly hard at trying to look as sultry and sexy as possible .....but, they had fun and felt quite grown-up posing for the camera.

I photographed this concert last weekend. It was quite challenging as the lighting changed every few seconds. Please feel free to critique.

Experimenting with lights and photographing little ones

See my blog..this is the final day of the festivites surrounding the god Ganesha which culminates in the immersion of the figure in the ocean.

This was shot in Arundel south of England, I was with four other photographers, we took photos for about an hour and a half, the cool thing about this shoot is that we all compared our pics on Flickr, the same shots but in our own unique style and how different we are or how similar the images could be depending on how you look at them.

The sun finally decided to shine on Scotland last week after a long absence during August. I had to upload some photos just to remind myself that we can get some decent weather up here!

This image was shot this week and I now have a dilemna - with clutter or without. I think she needs something to walk towards but how much to remove? I feel the second image is bland without the hazy figures in the distance, but is too cluttered with it all in - what do I remove?

I tried my hand at a pseudo Warhol/pop art effect on Sam's portait to blend with her bedroom colours which are very bold ... it was just for fun but she loves it.

I took note of Nick's comments on my last concert album and I think (I hope!) I have improved in my composition with this one. Please feel free to critique.

I've posted these images before and asked for advice re post processing. As Nick suggested, I used the Kubota actions to enhance the photos in both colour and black and white. I think they're greatly improved. Please critique.

Had fun taking photos of this lovely couple. I've never taken portraits indoors before and would love some suggestions on improving lighting, post processing etc. Please feel free to critique!

Spent the day at our local Motox circuit for Round 4 of the local comp. Bike No.1 with the rider in yellow is a young fellow by the name of Errol Willis who has been racing Motox and winning in the US. He's on the way up the ladder big time and a very quick rider and I was happy to have got some great action shots of him. Enjoy!

I had the chance to use a studio as a freebie promotion so I did a shoot with young Samantha....it was my first time in a studio and I had to share it with another photographer, which was a bit frustrating ....but somehow I muddled through. Here are some of the shots (she wanted lots of different effects/actions applied to vary the "look"). In many of them the lighting was not exactly what I had in mind but working around another photog has its drawbacks!

why are humans the most interesting subjects on the face of the earth.

Here are a few photos of my grandaughter taken on Sunday afternoon. It was a beautiful warm winter's day. Alyssa started by paddling in the lake and (as kids do) ended up taking her clothes off and swimming till sunset.

Here are some photos of my little grandaughter born last week. She is so tiny! Her ears are about as big as a man's thumbprint. So precious!

Photo shoot of an uncooperative child but with Simone's help we carried on through temper tantrums, sulks, bad moods and in between..some really cute expressions. Amore refused to get cleaned up for the session so we had grubby feet and blotchy face...but ended up with some natural shots even though Mommy would have like more smiley ones.

Took some pics of a couple of kids paractising their surfingskills in late afternoon winter sunshine.

I have a friend who is a concert promoter and I offered to photograph one of her concerts for free (thinking it would be good experience for me). I played around for the first 15 minutes with different lenses and settings and eventually settled on my 70-200mm zoom (I have a Canon 5D Mk11) as it seemed to handle the huge variation in light and dark very well. I used a monopod as there wasn't room to manouver a tripod. Almost every shot required a variation in camera settings as the lighting kept changing. I had a great time photographing this concert and the promoter was thrilled with my images. I welcome suggestions and critiques.

had the chance to watch my granddaughter last week and help some friends by watching their 2 yr old while they got things ready for a moving sale.

I went on a flash workshop in Windsor, there was about 40 Photographers that attended the more that attended the cheaper the cost, we landed up paying £4 each, there was about two hours theory and two and a half hours practical the practical was so much fun, every one was photographing each other using flash in the middle of the afternoon getting to grips the advantages of using flash I am fairly new to the photography game and I have often heard photographers that have been in the business for along time say I don't use flash I use natural light. I myself believe if you use flash correctly you can produce some amazing images.

I had a need to feel the camera in my hand after a dreadful, miserable winter.

A continuation of the previous album, these shots are from the night racing. Panning in low light, no flash and your targets moving at speeds up to 150KPH. What a challenge. F2.8, ISO 800 and shutter speeds between 1/60th and 1/100th.

Property pics taken for FIL's B&B in France (before subscribing but after after reading the free section).<br>These were taken in Februry and it was freezing outside. However I opened all the windows and turned on lights.

My husband and I share a birthday this week so we had a combined birthday luncheon on Sunday, at which we were given a huge bottle of Vodka. With it came a tiny miniature replica bottle measuring about 6cm, containing one tot of Vodka...I took some shots because it was so cute and to show the size I have included some objects in some of the pics to give a sense of scale. Used my Macro lens and my home made light tent and in some of the shots I gelled the speedlight with blue, which changed the black background to a nice rich blue colour.

My beloved Scotland, but it threw it down with rain for most of the week. However for my birthday the sun shone and i got these shots.

Third year this seal has come to the beach, A tamed wild seal!!! Took fish out of the hand of somebody on the jetty (photo to follow), It was about 2 feet away for about 15 minutes - worth the trip to Cornwall, just for that!

1st attempt

Large cruise ship visits my home town of liverpool.

Dr Canon and I spent a full day at our local Speedway for Round 3 of the Clubs Dirt Track racing which brings competitors from all around Australia. These shots cover all Classes from 50cc (very cute) up to the Seniors. This album is from the daytime races and I will upload shots from the night racing as they are edited. Enjoy!

Last night I watched Japan beat Sweden in the women’s football world cup semi final here in Frankfurt. It wasn’t actually the first football match I have been to see (the last time was when I saw Burnley play sometime in the late 1970s!) but it felt like a new experience to me.<br>I didn’t take many photos of the game itself because the action was all a bit far away, but I loved the way the people in the audience get involved and passionately support their team.<br>(p.s. in case you’re wondering how the dogs fit into this story, they were being cute with us on the train to the stadium!)

Probably a tie for our favorite part of San Antonio, my daughter and I visited the 4 missions within the National Park System (doesn't include the Alamo). All 4 have active parishes associated with them still.

My favorite place to go is to the mountains---but I'd never visited the Ozark and Ouachita ranges. Very hot, very dry, but still beautiful. I also love to visit state parks, any state.

these pictures are from the Gulf of Mexico which we detoured a bit to see on our way from San Antonio to Houston

The images were taken between 21.30 and 22.30 on 3rd July 2011.<br>They were taken using a 100-400mm telephoto lens.

I have uploaded some test shots. I think they may look better against a white background some I am going to see what the difference is this afternoon.

Took my lovely wife who is about to turn 50 to our local Botanical Gardens for some Pocket Wizard/lighting/portrait practice. <br>At this stage I'm trying to keep things simple until I understand the PW's and how to best place lightstands etc when outdoors. So this shoot was 2 lightstands with FlexTT5's attached and 2 Gary Fong Lightspheres and the Mini TT1 on camera. Pocket Wizards have been set to hypersync so the camera can shoot with high shutter speeds and wide apertures in bright sunlight. Please give me all constructive comments on any issues that you may find with lighting etc, thanks.

Photos taken over 2 trips out whilst visiting family in Jersey, Channel Islands.

I spotted this field of poppys from the car a couple of days ago and HAD to get back to get some shots.<br>This morning I got there and met a few other photographers with the same idea.<br>Here are a few of the photos I have taken and edited. I have also uploaded full res versions to a couple of stock agencies (so we will see how that goes!).<br>Comments welcome as usual and constructive critism welcomed.<br><br>

Spinnaker Tower at dusk

1st time out with the Pocket Wizards. Set 2 lightstands at 45 degrees either side of a stage with brollies. Really had no control over where people stood etc from then, just moved around the sides of the stage shooting with the Mini TT1 and Flex TT5's not missing a beat. Learnt a lot from the exercise considering it was one of those on the spur of the moment sessions. The compositions aren't great in some but this was more about the lighting.

I recently did a shoot for Well Child a UK based childrens' charity. The person that I was shooting was a reality television personality called Andrew Stone - Louie Spence's Showbusiness/Pineapple Dance Studios. The images with the white background were sent off to the charity to be used on their website. The other images were just us messing about, and getting used to working with each other as I will be doing Andrew's album photography and some other publicity work. I have played about in CS5 with the images and just trying out some ideas, so please feel free to leave your comments if you so wish.

We finally got some sun here. I put my lovely 50mm f.1/4 lens to work. I love this thing!<br>(However I think after uploading the photos the colors seem to be a bit different than on my computer. Hmmm .)

I was aksed to do a photo shoot of an office staff of 15 people who work for an Engineering firm that manufactures road building machinery as well as road signs. They wanted to have an A0 size poster collage made of this to hang in their reception area.

I've seen the other work in this group and I find it totally inspiring. It's time for me to share what I have been doing.<br>Thanks<br>Kate

so.....I rented a 50mm f1.4 lens, which is cool----my husband's boss heard about it and offered to lend me lenses......and he has a 70-200 f4.....oh my....I am SO in love with this lens!

This year summer was lagging but finally it is here. I have been always drawn to horses. I've got the chance to make some friends over this past weekend. They are absolutely beautiful. I love the hope you will too.<br>(and there are some California cows too)

Stock worthy type image?

Those of you familiar with the TV Series 'Get Smart' will remember the Red Sunbeam V8 Tiger that Agent 86 AKA Maxwell Smart drove. Clubs from around Australia converged on Wagga Wagga for their 2011 Rally and I have tried to project images that show that even old cars can be sexy and tough.

See my blog.."comparison of group photos"....this bunch of girls were having a birthday party photo shoot in the park by their mothers, who were struggling to get them to cooperate. One of the mons saw me walking in the park with my 70-200 lens on my camera and asked me to "help" them. I ended up more or less doing the photo shoot for them , since when they have bought the images from me and were very happy with the pics. They asked me to put some "artistic effects" on the images, so here are some which I gave to them.

Friends of The Royal International Air Tattoo 2011

We finished our spring firearms training with a competition. It was the most beautiful night of the season, and I was able to capture some great shots at muzzleloader.

I recently downloaded Photomatix (HDR software) and am trying it out before I actually buy the full version. This version is like the full one, however, you get a watermark on your images. Here are some images I have taken over the last couple of days.

Photos taken with my phone (left the camera at home in haste to get here), using HDR in built software.<br>Please bear in mind that I havent been able to straighten or edit any of these and couldnt see in my camera screen what I was shooting due to reflection on the screen, so I had to point and guess and shoot.<br>Taken on HTC hero. 5mp phone.

Despite the rain and the fact that most of the places reccied for the special portraits were kyboshed at the last minute, this was a great wedding at a stunning location with lovely people...

The month of May was beyond crazy....but I did manage to celebrate my 50th birthday and get a few pictures of my new grandbaby......who I call "babycakes" (for "baby Kate")

We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary with a get-away to a wonderful spa resort in a wine region near our home. I loved the window seat which made a comfy place for reading.

So pleased I took the plunge and invested in some L series lenses and a ring flash. I have never worked so hard in my life. Arrived at the hotel at 9 and left the reception at 1 in the morning. I was running on pure adrenalin all day and there was only one cock up - I left my camera bag, complete with new lenses outside the church in the middle of town. I nearly cried when I got to the hotel (3 minutes away) and realized - I have never done that before! I drove like a mad thing back to the church and wanted to give up. There were two drunks there - maybe it put people off going anywhere near them - my heart was in my mouth, and to my utter relief it was there. I will always remember that moment and am sure I won't make that mistake again. Got back to reception and felt like a twit - they were so busy chatting, they hadn't even noticed! Phew! Anybody who thinks weddings are easy - go try one! The day was beautiful - and was thankfully a bit windy, otherwise I would never have got this shot! I'll add some more shots later.

This little creature is a meerkat (a type of mongoose). Normally they dont come near human habitation as they are wild animals, but the on going drought has made all kinds of usually wild creatures migrate into the cities and suburbia loking for food and water. This one started coming into our garden a few weeks ago and I began leaving scraps of food out for him which he devoured. He now comes quite close to be fed although he takes fright very easily and dashes for cover if I move too quickly. He also hates the sight of the camera and now I keep it nearby in case I can get a shot ....something which would guarantee to get a smile out of me.<br>This morning I came downstairs and this is what I saw .... he was actually standing on his hand legs and staring into the sitting room....waiting patiently for me to arrive with some food for him. I was able to take this shot of him but as I had to do it through the glass sliding door, it isnt as sharp as I would like...but if I had opened the door, he would have run away instantly. Just seeing him there waiting for me and trusting that I would eventually appear really made me smile.... it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day!

Although I will not do wedding photography professionally, I offered to shoot my great-niece's wedding since they could not afford to hire someone. The bright sunlight made it tough, but overall I was pleased with the results. Feel free to comment.

Each year I get to take pics of this little chap on his birthday (see my latest blog) when his mom brings him to visit his grandparents in Port Elizabeth. He is a very rewarding little chap and I love all the expressions he shows in just one sitting!

Here are a few textured backgrounds as suggested by Rhonda. I played around with the textures but decided i didnt like them on the actual subject, so layered in PS and erased them from the backgrounds.....I quite like the effect.

These three girls are best friends and are all turning 13 in the next couple of weeks, so they requested a fun and funky kind of photo shoot for their album. These are just a few of the shots.... they were fun to work with and had some nice ideas as well.

Last weekend I did a photo shoot of my little friend, Simone..remember her from the album about the donkey girl from Lea Place? I have always pictured her as a really old fshioned little lady...a quaker, or Victorian or something old fashioned like that. When I found an outfit at a local kiddies dress hire shop, I asked her to put it on and come for a shoot. We took all afternoon and had so much fun together..she is the most willing and pleasing little model I have ever worked with. I was really happy with some of the shots and will be making some enlargements to put onto canvas for myself, as well as a couple for her family..I have already given her a DVD slide show of all the photos and she was ecstatic.

Coastal pics taken May 2011

I took a detour last month on the way to spend time with the Rastas in Knysna..stopped over at Storms River Mouth as well as Plettenberg Bay to enjoy some spectacular coastal secenery.

The Canon 300mm is a hard lens to master and it's a case of practice and practice again. I took him to our local Lake Albert for a National Waterski event this weekend and these are some of the results. The boats are averaging 120-130KPH and the skiers much faster when whipping through the corners.

I was asked to do a photo shoot of this high school girl at her home before leaving for the Ball as well as a few shots at the start of the dance at a very elegant venue...fortunately we went very early as cameras were not allowed inside but we sneaked in for a few good ones before the security guards slung me out and only allowed the official photographer in with all his equipment..he must have made a killing that night!

Glass photos

Here in Port Elizabeth we dont have Autumn colours as our trees are evergreen. On a recent trip down the coast to a place called Knysna where they do have a few trees which actually produce some pretty Autumn colours, I picked some leaves and brought them home, thinking I could make some kind of project to photograph. I decided to freeze them in a block of ice ("Why?" you ask..."I have no idea..just because i felt like it" I reply ....then I lit the block of ice from behind and afterwards applied some different filter effects to make some "artsy" images. Weird...but it was fun all the same!

after over 20 hrs, Katherine Eliana finally made her appearance via c-section. Mom is exhausted and I was merciful, no pics of her yet. Been working on low light shots for this moment...no flash.

Classic Spaghetti Carbonara

spring time in the US Midwest means three things.....rain, flowers and 4-H....well, we're certainly getting the rain, the flowers have been gorgeous...and shooting sports is our family's favorite 4-H project, next to photography :)

A few pics I took playing with the settings on my camera and a little fun post production

some images from today's promo shoot with a friend and very talented musician. All lighting was SB-80DX (manual), and fired either through a softbox, or grid spots. Sets consisted of living room wall, and roof garden.

These images were all taken in Marathon, USA where we were staying.

I was at a wedding as a guest took as many photographs as I could in the situation. Looking back I could have taken a few more creative shots. I took 700 pic . Edited and got about 250 good shots out of the batch.

These photos were taken at Wakehurst Place - which is a National Trust location, about 10 minutes from where I live. Beautiful house and gardens, millennium seed store, sheep, and at the moment, the most beautiful bluebell walk. I think this weekend is the best for bluebells, so maybe save a visit til next year, All the photos in this album were taken there. There is always something to photograph here, whatever time of year.

Sometimes when I take a photo a caption will just leap out at me and I have to add it

This picture may not be something you will want to hang on your wall, but I think it has a surreal fascination. It has been vignetted and to enhance the flow of the "tears" I have removed one fly. I have dodged and saturated to bring out the colour too. I do have the whole beast (a rare breed of cattle), but it wasn't as interesting as the tight crop.

Kyle of Tongue, Scotland

British Wildlife Centre about 10 minutes from me - all wonder of creatures to see - they do photo days too so if you want some practise with wildlife close up - this is your place. I took these a couple of years ago, and thought some of you maybe interested enough to pay a visit (Surrey) I think they should be opening just about now.<br><br>There is a massive viewing area for the deer too.

A 4wd and camping gear for 5 weeks, 5,000km, 111gig of photos, a four wheel drive adventure through the Cantebury High Country and the most stunning and breathtaking scenery ever seen. That's the South Island of New Zealand and this is just a sample of what's to come.

2nd maternity shoot---and this one is for my 1st grandbaby! tried a few different techniques on camera and post-processing. I'd love to hear comments.

Scottish Thistle

Here are some photos from my 2nd wedding (my first paid one). The weather was atrocious as it absolutely poured. The wedding had to be moved from a beautiful headland overlooking the beach to a room with dark varigated brick walls. All rather challenging for a new wedding photographer. There was a 20 minute break in the rain just as the sun set so we raced down to the beach to get some photos before it got too dark. (for some reason these photos havn't uploaded in numerical order

Had a go at off camera flash, I could only use one flash as my second reciever was faulty for flash no 2. This was done at a wedding in Southampton as a guest. Had loads of fun and made so many mistakes, and missed many shots that I should have taken.

f10 1/100th ISO 160 Took a bit of angling with the camera to get what I wanted on this one - just a hint of the London Eye with Big Ben below. I used the luminance slider in Lightroom to bring out the colour in the sky and the sponge tool in Photoshop to enhance the red of the buildings at the bottom.

A few shots after the christening, used 28-135mm lens no flash . I did find out later that I could have used my flash as it was after the ceromony, but as it was all a learning curve for me, found out the limitations I could use with no flash, next shoot can only get better

First Album. No flash was allowed and was fairly restricted to where I could shoot from.Used a 50mm 1.8 prime lens

The state takes a lot of teasing, but it is truely one of the most beautiful places for photography. My neighbor to the south, I go there as often as I can.

Monach Butterfly, Big Bend Reserve USA.

Some photos I took in the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park in Central Australia.

Some of these stock photos were taken recently, some a few years ago but I have only just got round to uploading them to 8 agencies last week. <br><br>I thought it might be helpful for you to see acceptances, rejections and why...(iStock still reviewing).<br><br>I won't say which agency rejected which because it really doesn't matter as their criteria changes from reviewer to reviewer. What does matter is that you take rejections on the chin, let them go and move on.<br><br>It may motivate you to know that March has been one of my highest earning months from stock photography to date (in 6 years) with microstock. There is still life and great potential in stock IMO.

Been really busy so have put up a selection for you all to have a look at.

These are just a few images which should have been part of my previous album....so they are not really an album on their own.

Some photos of my grandaughter at the local pool. The pool had a blue roof-type cover over it which gave the images a blue cast which was very difficult to remove in PS. Some of the skin tones still look blue

We have had a very long, very hot and very dry summer but hopefully the seasons are finally changing. Sunday was a perfect day...warm, sunny and windless...which is almost unheard of lately..so everyone went down to the beach to enjoy themselves. Young and old were to be seen promenading on the pier and swimming in the sea. I thought members in the cold countries would enjoy looking at a place where the weather was perfect for a whole day!

Here is the same photo as before, but I have flipped it (to see if it scans better) horizontally and taken out a couple of little niggly bits on the poles, plus did a tiny bit of straightening on the poles.

we worship with an eclectic group at a small urban church; things are different here, weddings are more like parties and parties...well, they're a blast. Dana and Kensley asked me at the last minute to take pictures for them. It was an honor. This was an experiment in high ISO wedding photography for me.

On the wilder side of Port Elizabeth the coastline is full of inlets where the rock formations are interesting and totally different from the rocks on the side where all the popular beaches are to be found. This particular cove is known as Schoenmakerskop and the rock formations and colours are not found at the other coves and beaches...I thought they might make fairly interesting images.

My girlfriend asked me to take some photos of her. This is what I came up with. The weather been pretty unfriendly lately. So the light wasn't the best in all of these. Also it was hard to get her face relaxed. She wasn't very comfortable being photographed. I took my iPod and sound dock. Just a couple of pictures I shot that I really liked

I did a photo shoot of Leah, aged 14 days, over the weekend. Her very young mom had asked me to please make her baby look "pretty"...she had seen some Ann Geddes images and had that kind of approach in mind, so I said I would try my best. It was quite a challenge as the little one was very dark with mottled skin ... she was in the process of shedding her new skin..it was peeling in places and most of her body was covered in a fine layer of dark hair. I decided to use two presets in Lightroom for most of the images..."aged photo" and BW conversion 4" as both options helped to smooth the skin out and desaturate where necessary. I was reasonably pleased with the results. I also tried a few grungy backgrounds using layers and blending modes...just for fun and to make a few look a bit different.

this was a trial run photo shoot for me and although I still need to fully understand and learn about aperture, lighting, etc I wanted to give it a shot with my new camera. i'd like to do a series similiar to this , more expressions, for stock, but my faith in agencies are diminishing by the minute, is this image interesting or good enough i wonder.

I had the ISO settings set wrong and while I was at the church did not check .To have done the visit prior to the event made me realise check and double check your settings

... doing his thing, they might just not be good enough for agencies, bugger!...opinions please.

These are my first experience in taking studio pics. (At the studio I am currently purchasing). I got to go in with my family and play around. Can't wait to really learn what I am doing in there.

Here are some recent pics I have worked on.

Looking for opinions please. These are a couple of photos taken a few years ago at a medium sized hog farm where I was employed. As always, any suggestions for making these better is most welcome! This spring I plan to go back and reshoot with a canon T2i. These were all sony cybershot h2 6mp.

Last week I did a photo shoot of a "newborn" baby boy..three weeks old but he is already a huge fellow! See my blog for my comments about the shoot.

Although the Canon 70-200mm L IS II USM isn't a Macro lens, this shot of a Golden Orb spider spinning her web is not too bad. ISO 100, F2.8 200mm focal length and subject distance 2 mtrs.

over 4 inches of rain in less than 12 hours made the rivers rise...a walkabout today to check 2 of my lenses that I know need some adjusting....

I did a photo shoot of two little girls last week, youngest aged 11 months and the other 4 years. They were not exactly happy to do this and I battled a bit until I brought out my ever trusty bag of dress up stuff ..pink tutus and flowers and dresses from my ballet days. I have found that all little girls love to dress up and this time it worked its magic for about half an hour while I managed to get some shots..albeit on the run and obvioulsy all hand held.<br>The mom wants me to make a coffee table photobook using the best images, which I am busy compiling right now.

First trip out with this lens. It is lighter than the 70-200mm 2.8, lightning fast focus but is going to take a while to master. You must make sure that you are absolutely spot on your target otherwise soft/blurred images are the result. Great for wildilfe and sports.

Random shots of the month.

Hi everyone, I'm still alive! Last Saturday was my Nephew's wedding and whilst a Photographer had been organised for official shots, I was invited to follow the bridal party around and take more candid shots. I have just upgraded 2 new lenses and this was the first time out with the new 70-200 IS II USM. Had only used the lens for about 2 hrs prior to this event as I literally had only picked it up so I was learning on the job. The indoor shots were done with no flash and it was raining outside, cloudy and miserable. it was a challenge!

Here are some pictures from an impromptu shoot that was cut short as I pulled my back in the middle of it! I hope you like the pictures. Please feel free to comment on them.

Every year they do ice sculptures in my home town. I drive by the park every day and noticed them working today so I took some shots. Shot in aperture priority and should have shot manual to slow down shutter speed. The pictures came out awful dark. I touched them up in raw editor so they look ok. I will get more Friday or Saturday night when they are done carving.
